What is a sex wedge pillow?
Basically it’s a wedge-shaped foam pillow that you use to position yourself comfortably for sex. You can of course use it in any position you like – go nuts – but most commonly it goes underneath your hips to lift your butt up slightly so you can achieve different angles during penetrative sex. And by that, I primarily mean your g-spot can get the attention it needs so you can achieve that elusive vaginal orgasm – not common, but certainly not impossible.
We have the Byre Wedge Pillow, which is marketed as a sleeping aid for people who suffer from acid reflux, GERD, hip pain etc and can’t lie down at night. Having used it once or twice for that purpose (hey, being in your 30s is brutal) it is actually quite helpful. But, of course, that’s not its preferred use in our household where it’s used mainly as sex wedge pillow. I’m fairly sure we’re not alone in that! With actual sex wedges like the Liberator Sex Wedge costing a lot more, the Byre Wedge Pillow seems like a good alternative.
The Byre (not sex) Wedge Pillow review
The Byre (Not Officially Sex) Wedge Pillow is made from two connected wedges which velcro together in different ways so that you ca alter the angle from 30 degrees to 60 degrees.
At just under £35 on Amazon it’s one of the cheaper (definitely not sex) wedge pillows on the market but it still came with great reviews – mainly from people with reflux and neck pain, to be fair. But! A sturdy but comfortable is what everyone, whatever their intentions, want from a wedge pillow, so we decided to go for it.
So what can we say about it?
Well, it’s fairly squashy, being made of foam, but firm enough to support you in a position of your choosing. If you really go at it, you’ll find that it goes flat from the weight of two people on top of it which is barely surprising, but it does spring back afterwards and it certainly supports one person well. The alternative to a foam wedge is an inflatable cushion which is fine in theory, and good for storage, but having to blow that up before you get busy must be quite a turn-off.
It has an inoffensive grey plush cover which you can remove and is machine washable, which I’d say is pretty damn important for a sex wedge pillow because it’s bound to get a little messy now and then.
How do you use it and what’s the benefit?
You can use it when you’re on your back to get your hips up so that your partner’s penis whacks into your g-spot repeatedly, or you can lie face down over it so your butt goes up into the air. I’m sure there are other positions which the sex wedge is useful for; we’ll have to investigate over the Christmas holidays and report back.
The only downside is that you are likely to slip down it if you go at it hard, and your partner will have to hoist you back into place after a while. I’m not sure how you’d stop this from happening on any sex wedge though.
However, it definitely helps you get better G-spot stimulation and more orgasms, and for £35 it’s something that we’ll definitely be getting a lot of use out of. And if someone spots it in your bedroom, you can always tell them your hip’s been playing up and would they mind getting you a cup of tea.
