The Doxy Extra Powerful Wand Massager was our latest investment, after the Pixey Deluxe rechargeable magic wand became prone to overheating, our Lovehoney Classic got water damaged and a replacement Lovehoney Classic failed to live up to the first in terms of raw power. It was fine, it just wasn’t…. Wonderful.
The Doxy Extra Powerful Wand Vibrating Massager is a sturdy device that has quite a reputation for its incredible power, versatility, and effectiveness at delivering extremely powerful orgasms. Dpxy claim that it’s 30% stronger than the OG Hitachi Magic Wand – a device that isn’t available in the us for me to compare, sadly. The reviews on Lovehoney are unbeaten. But does it live up to the hype, and more importantly, is it reliable or not?
2026 Update
This original review was written in 2022, after we managed to kill not one but two Doxy wands in a row. Both were bought from Lovehoney, who were brilliant about replacing the first and refunding the second, but after that I wasn’t particularly keen to risk buying another one.
Lovehoney then stopped stocking Doxy for a while around the time the company changed hands. During that period I also came across quite a few complaints about customer service directly from Doxy, which made me even more reluctant to recommend them. I can accept that powerful motors sometimes burn out. It’s annoying, especially on a £100-ish sex toy, but it’s considerably more annoying if you then struggle to get it replaced or refunded.
However, Doxy wands are now back at Lovehoney, which changes my opinion quite a bit.
I still can’t promise you’ll get one that lasts forever; our experience certainly suggests that reliability can be an issue. But buying through Lovehoney means you’ve got their customer service and returns policy behind the purchase, which removes most of the risk that previously made me uncomfortable recommending Doxy.
And in terms of actual performance? I still haven’t found another wand quite like it. The Doxy remains one of the strongest wands we’ve ever used and, when ours were working, they were absolutely phenomenal.
So after several years of being wary of recommending them, I’m happy to recommend the Doxy again, provided you buy it through a reputable retailer such as Lovehoney rather than relying solely on the manufacturer’s aftercare.

Do Doxy Wands Break a Lot?
Unfortunately, our personal experience is that a lot can go wrong with these wonderful machines.
Our first Doxy Extra Powerful Wand Vibrating Massager broke after several months of use (not like, constant use, but fairly regular) and the second went pffft after even less time for no specific reason. It’s possible the motor went. HEARTBREAKING.
Lovehoney’s customer services team were – as per – amazing at replacing the Doxy wand the first time around, but the second time we decided to go for a refund to see if we could find something better.
We haven’t yet, and I’m very tempted to call it bad luck and have another try because I don’t think the Doxy can be beaten in terms of the orgasms it delivers and I’ve tried a lot of different toys!
Long Power Cord
The Doxy wand comes with a generous 2.8m power cord so it doesn’t matter whose side of the bed its on or in fact where in the room you want to use it.
It doesn’t require constant recharging so you can enjoy uninterrupted pleasure without worrying about the battery running out like you might be with a rechargeable wand and mains powered is often stronger and more reliable.
Easy to Use
The ergonomic design of the Doxy Wand Massager makes it comfortable to hold and manoeuvre. It’s easy to target specific areas and apply pressure as needed, enhancing the overall experience.
In terms of the controls, there is a power (on/off), a plus and a minus control which make it easy to change the pattern and intensity. However, they are not as easy to use as the dial on the Lovehoney Classic wand, and you might find that a wrongly placed thumb kills the moment!
Easy to Clean
The silicone head is easy to clean with mild soap and water, ensuring hygiene is maintained. There are no bumps or ridges like there are in the Lovehoney Classic wand for lube and bodily fluids to get stuck in, which is a bug bear of mine!

Our personal experience wasn’t great because both of our massagers broke. Two failures would normally be enough for me to write a toy off completely. The fact I’m willing to recommend Doxy again tells you quite a lot about how good it is when it’s working
