I believe that as a couple we’re pretty open minded. There aren’t many categories of sex toys that we haven’t already tried, which makes it a challenge to think of the next new thing sometimes. But one fairly simple toy we still didn’t have is a set of anal beads.
For those not in the know, anal beads tend to look like a string of beads (like something Sister Mary might clutch to her chest whilst asking the Lord to save her if she ever read filth like this) that you pop into your bum one at a time until you feel full, and which you can pull out gently at the point of climax to enhance an orgasm.

I’d been thinking of getting a set for a while when I saw that Lovehoney had a sale on, and the CalExotics Powerballs Smooth Latex Anal Power Jiggle Balls (which have a full RRP of £26.99) seemed good value. So I placed the order, and waited for the discreet package to arrive a few days later.
First impressions were a bit of a shock, as this latex-covered string of anal jiggle balls was a lot bigger than expected. I’d assumed them to be normal anal bead sized and with nothing on the Lovehoney site for comparison (except for a picture of someone holding them… yes it’s all on me), I did not think to check the dimensions which would have told me that each ball has a 4.5 inch circumference, and the string is 12 inches long with an insertable length of 11 inches. That’s quite a big string of anal beads.
I’ve got large hands, but they’re still definitely a handful.
We did wonder about spraying them gold and hanging from the Christmas tree for a big of festive fun when Aunty Cecelia comes over for nose around.
The other notable thing is that the last little loop of string after the final balls is small, so if you want to avoid an afternoon waiting in hospital I guess the final ball has to stay outside.
Finally the jiggle; you can definitely feel the insides of the ball moving around, a bit like some meditation balls my sister had when I was young, and I was very intrigued as to how that would feel when in use.
Trying out the CalExotic Powerballs
As a toy, these aren’t particularly aimed at either gender and I bought them thinking that they were something we could both have a go with.
Since our dynamic in bed is that I normally take charge, and I wouldn’t want to start putting something new inside Tammy’s butt without any idea how it works or how it feels, I decided to take advantage of a bit of spare alone time to give them a quick solo try out.
Now that was a mistake, which we’ll come to in a minute. If you’re doing anything new, particularly bum related, I would recommend doing it when you have plenty of time, and are relaxed. Not when you’ve only go so long until the alarm goes off for the lasagne in the oven.
Anyway, I got myself a little turned on and hard, lubed up the jiggle balls and my arse, and popped one in. I was a bit sceptical about this – as they have no tapered end and are a sizeable diameter, I wondered how hard it would be to insert.
Fortunately it was remarkably easy to get the first ball in.
Within a few moments, it had disappeared up inside and felt good.
Feeling pleased with myself, and mindful of the time, I quickly followed up with balls two and three, which started to give me that nice full feeling as I continued playing with myself and watching our personal video that I’d put on loop and cast to the nearby TV.
I was enjoying this quite a lot, but still conscious that I didn’t have loads of time, so in went ball number four.
At this point, I started to feel a little over full and uncomfortable, and realised I’d probably rushed too much.
Ball five was never going to go in anyway due to the lack of any further base and the very small loop of string that would be left, but I’d have struggled to take any more this time.
Then all of a sudden, I felt a very strong pressure on my prostate, and had a very sudden and unexpected orgasm.
It was a big one, but as soon as it was done the discomfort increased and I realised it was time to waddle to the bathroom and get the balls out.
So, I took the short trip, and decided to see how easily these balls would pull out.
It turned out this is the bit really shouldn’t have rushed, as I tugged too hard and ended up hurting myself a bit as they all came out. I know that anal beads are mean to be able to come out together to enhance an orgasm, but these ones are big and (for me) probably shouldn’t be used that way.
The upshot of all this was a few days of a very sore bum.
I also think I bruised my prostate as for about 6 hours I felt like I really need to pee but couldn’t. I’m also afraid I didn’t get to experience the jiggle so can’t comment on that aspect.
Lesson learned.
Next time I try these (and I will) I’ll take more time putting them in, and maybe stop at three until I’m more used to them. Also, the extraction needs a bit more patience. But that said, and despite the discomfort afterwards, I think I experienced my first prostate orgasm, so these are definitely worth further investigation.
