If you’ve spent any time looking for premium clitoral stimulators, you’ve almost certainly come across the LELO SONA range. These sleek, luxury toys use sonic wave technology rather than traditional vibrations to stimulate the clitoris, creating a very different sensation to classic vibrators – a deeper, more diffused stimulation.
If you’re unfamiliar with clitoral stimulators (or ‘clit suckers’) then firstly, what the hell are you doing with your life, and secondly, we have some handy blog posts about what clit suckers are and how they work, and how clitoral suction toys compare to traditional vibrators. There’s also a round up of the best clitoral stimulators for reliable orgasms.
But back to the LELO SONA 3…
With its sleek design, ultra-soft silicone and upgraded “SmoothRise” technology, it aims to deliver strong clitoral stimulation without the sudden jumps in intensity that some toys suffer from.
But with a price tag of around £129, making it the most expensive clitoral suction toy I’ve tried after the Womanizer Next, is the SONA 3 actually worth it? Let’s take a closer look.
(TL:DR – Yes, it’s so worth it).

What Is the LELO SONA 3 Clitoral Stimulator Toy?
The LELO SONA 3 is a premium clitoral stimulator that uses LELO’s very own trademarked SenSonic sonic wave technology to stimulate the clitoris without direct vibration. Instead of buzzing against the skin, the toy produces rapid sonic pulses that radiate from the opening of the device. These waves stimulate a wider portion of the clitoral structure, including areas beneath the surface where there are thousands of nerve endings.
What this means in reality is stronger clitoral stimulation than typical vibrators or air-pulse toys, and the type of orgasm you’ll want to tell your friends about.
The toy is designed purely for external clitoral stimulation, making it ideal for solo use or adding stimulation during partnered sex – although if considering a toy to get for a couple, I would personally recommend a magic wand for additional clitoral stimulation over sonic or air pulse toys, as they are easier to aim.
LELO SONA 3 Features and Specifications
The SONA 3 is designed as a premium luxury toy, and the features reflect that. Here’s a run down of the technology.
SenSonic™ Sonic Technology
Instead of standard vibrations, the SONA 3 emits high-frequency sonic pulses that stimulate the clitoris indirectly and lead to bigger orgasms.
SmoothRise™ Technology
One of the newest upgrades in the SONA 3 is SmoothRise™ technology.
Rather than jumping suddenly between power levels, the intensity increases gradually over 16 different levels. This makes it easier to build stimulation slowly and comfortably.
For people who find clitoral stimulation very intense or dislike sudden spikes in vibration strength, this feature makes a noticeable difference.
App Connectivity
The SONA 3 can connect to the LELO app via Bluetooth, unlocking additional features. Through the app you can control the toy remotely, access to additional stimulation modes and use the Love Bridge feature for long-distance partner control.
The additional modes available in the app are:
Finish Me Off – gradually builds intensity to a strong climax
Out Of Control – unpredictable stimulation patterns
If you enjoy long-distance play or partner control, the app functionality adds some fun options.
We cover more about this in our round up of app-controlled sex toys.
Ultra-Soft Silicone
Like most LELO toys, the SONA 3 is made from premium body-safe silicone, passing all the relevant UK standards for sex toys.
The surface is exceptionally smooth and soft, and the toy feels very high-quality in the hand. The ergonomic shape also makes it easy to hold and position comfortably.
Waterproof Design
The SONA 3 is fully waterproof, meaning it can be used in the bath or shower and is easy to rinse clean after use.
Travel Lock
The LELO travel lock feature ensures the device will not turn on while in your luggage, making it a great travel sex toy To lock it, press and hold both the + and – buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. To unlock, repeat the process. Ta-da!

Design and First Impressions
The toy was shipped discreetly with the box wrapped in a black fabric bag, which is fantastic if you have nosy housemates or kids who sometimes open your post.
The outer box, and the SONA 3 nestled inside look exactly like you would expect from a luxury sex toy brand. LELO packaging is very sleek and gift-worthy (although for your significant other, I’d suggest, rather than for your grandma).
It’s compact, curved and minimalist, with a small mouth designed to sit over the clitoris. I have the cream and rose gold colour combo but the SONA 3 also comes in a violet and a purple colour.

Compared to many cheaper clitoral stimulators, the build quality feels noticeably better. The silicone is softer, the toy feels solid, and the buttons light up when the toy is in use (handy!) and are simple to operate.
It’s fairly light and small enough to fit easily in a bedside drawer or travel bag. It’s unassuming and discreet; you could keep this by your bedside without arousing too much suspicion or take it with you on holiday easily.
In use, it’s a very quiet sex toy, only slightly more audible than the Biird Namii, with much higher intensity of suction.
What Comes in the Box?

Inside the packaging you’ll find:
- Your LELO SONA 3 sex toy
- A USB charging cable
- Satin storage pouch
- Warranty card (scan and register for additional warranty)
- Instruction manual
- Sachet of personal moisturiser (lubricant)
How to Use the LELO SONA 3

Using the SONA 3 is very simple.
- Charge the toy using the included USB cable; the pin goes into the bottom of the toy and you can tell it’s charging as the buttons will flash slowly.
- When you’re turned on, apply a small amount of water-based lubricant around the mouth of the toy.
- Place the opening over the clitoris or slightly beside it.
- Start on a lower intensity and increase it gradually.
- Think happy thoughts.
- Orgasms!
Because the stimulation can be quite powerful, I would recommend starting slowly and builging up the intensity.
There are 16 different levels so you can pick one that’s right for you using the + and – buttons, and if you want to access one of the 10 different modes/patterns, you cycle through these using the middle button.
Alternatively, connect using the LELO app for full controls.
LELO SONA 3 vs SONA 3 Cruise: What’s the Difference?

This is a common question because the toys look almost identical, however there is a £10 difference in the RRP.
The main difference is Cruise Control technology, which only exists in the SONA 3 Cruise model. Cruise Control increases the toy’s power automatically when it’s pressed firmly against the body, maintaining consistent stimulation.
The standard SONA 3 does not include this feature, but it still uses the same SenSonic sonic stimulation technology.
In summary:
SONA 3
- SenSonic technology
- SmoothRise intensity transitions
- App connectivity
SONA 3 Cruise
- All of the above plus Cruise Control pressure-boost technology
Both toys are powerful, but the Cruise model maintains intensity better when pressed tightly against the body. As I haven’t tried it, I can’t say whether this is worth paying the extra £10 for but I think I’d rather have the option and not use it than wish I had spent the extra down the line!
How Much Does the LELO SONA 3 Cost?
The SONA 3 has a full RRP of £129 before any discounts.
That makes it significantly more expensive than budget clitoral stimulators like the Satisfyer Pro 2, and even more than the Biird Namii which is my most expensive clitoral stimulator to date. However, LELO toys are known for their build quality, strong motors and long lifespan which justifies the price somewhat – and it isn’t as expensive as top of the range clitoral suction toys like the Womanizer Next.
With the SONA 3 you get a 12 month warranty as standard, and if you register your device you can access an additional warranty. Having experienced motors dying on clitoral suction toys in the past, this gives me confidence that it won’t give up the ghost!
The LELO SONA 3 Compared to Other Clit Suckers

The SONA 3 is super powerful and delivers orgasms easily on a par or better than the other air pulse toys I’ve tried.
The handle is ergonomic and the toy is surprisingly light, however unlike the Biird Namii and Lumii, it can’t be squished between your thighs for handsfree contact so it depends how you prefer to use your toys.
If you like to lie back on the bed then the SONA 3 works well, as the controls are accessible on the front and illuminated so help you hit the right setting. If you like the handsfree option, then it might not be the one for you.
Pros
- Extremely powerful sonic stimulation
- Pemium build quality and silicone
- Gradual SmoothRise intensity levels
- Fully waterproof
- Very quiet
- App connectivity for long distance play
Cons
- Expensive compared to most clit suckers
- Cannot be used hands-free easily
- Learning curve for positionings

Is the LELO SONA 3 Worth It?
If you’re looking for a luxury clitoral stimulator with powerful sensations, the LELO SONA 3 is one of the best options available. You will soon find that you reach for it as your go-to sex toy, and the others get left in the dust!
The sonic wave stimulation feels different from traditional vibrators and can produce very intense sensations for people who enjoy clitoral stimulation.
The main downside is simply the price which makes it a bit inacessible to some, and possibly the lack of hands free use.
If you’re new to clitoral stimulators, a cheaper option might be a safer starting point until you work out whether it’s for you or not, but if you want a high-end toy with premium materials and powerful stimulation which won’t let you down, the SONA 3 delivers.
With its smooth intensity transitions, premium silicone and luxury build, it’s a thoughtfully designed toy aimed at people who want a luxury experience. It is also good for people who want App connectivity.
Personally? I think I might be a little bit in love with it.
LELO Sona 3 FAQ
What is sonic clitoral stimulation?
Sonic stimulation uses rapid pulses of air pressure rather than direct vibration. This stimulates the clitoris indirectly and can produce deeper sensations than traditional vibrators.
Is the LELO SONA 3 waterproof?
Yes. The toy is fully waterproof, meaning it can be used in the bath or shower and easily rinsed for cleaning.
Does the LELO SONA 3 have a travel lock?
The LELO travel lock feature ensures the device does not turn on while in your luggage. To lock the device, press and hold both the + and – buttons simultaneously for 3 seconds. To unlock, repeat the process.
How long does the battery last?
A full charge usually provides around one to two hours of use, depending on the intensity level and whether you are using Bluetooth connectivity.
Is the LELO SONA 3 better than the Satisfyer Pro 2?
The Satisfyer Pro 2 is far cheaper (around £35) but uses air-pulse technology rather than sonic waves. The SONA 3 feels more powerful and luxurious, but whether it’s worth the extra £90 depends on how much you value build quality and intensity. Both toys are effective, so the choice often comes down to budget and personal preference.
Is the LELO SONA 3 better than the SONA 2?
The SONA 3 improves on the SONA 2 with SmoothRise intensity transitions and improved app connectivity. The core SenSonic stimulation technology remains similar, but the experience feels more refined and controllable.
