Lovense Solace Pro Review: Best Automatic Male Masturbator?

I’ve reviewed a lot of automatic male masturbators by this point. Some have been powerful bits of machinery. Some have been packed with vibration, suction, warming, rotation, apps and enough technology to make masturbation feel like an engineering project.

To varying degrees, they’ve all done the job, but none of them has quite been the holy grail.

By that, I mean I’ve never tried an automatic thrusting masturbator that made me think I could happily ditch the humble manual Fleshlight. A Fleshlight is simple, reliable, easy to use and, most importantly, the stroking sensation actually feels reasonably close to sex. A lot of automatic toys can certainly make you orgasm, but for me they just don’t quite hit the spot.

Could the Lovense Solace Pro be the one?

What Is The Lovense Solace Pro?

The Lovense Solace Pro is a rechargeable automatic masturbator with a removable textured sleeve inside a motorised housing. It currently costs £159/$199 from the Lovense website, although it’s also available via third party retailers including Amazon, Lovehoney UK and Lovehoney US.

The sleeve moves backwards and forwards automatically, and you can change both the speed and stroke length depending on the type of stimulation you want. It’s similar in theory to the Autoblow AI Ultra, but much smaller, lighter and more portable, and rechargeable with a common USB-C cable rather than mains powered.

It also comes with a clamp-style mount designed to hold the main unit securely in position for genuinely hands-free use.

You can control it easily using the buttons on the toy itself or connect it to the Lovense app via Bluetooth, where you get more precise controls, patterns, partner control and various interactive features.

First Impressions Of The Solace Pro

My first thought was that the toy looked surprisingly compact. Looks are deceiving, though.

Once I actually used it, I could fit all the way inside without touching the end of the sleeve.

If you are particularly long or very girthy then you may have a different experience, but for an average or above-average penis there seems to be much more space inside than you would expect from looking at it.

It’s surprisingly compact for an automatic thrusting masturbator and much easier to store than the Autoblow AI Ultra.

What Does The Lovense Solace Pro Feel Like?

A lot of automatic male toys focus on vibration, suction or stimulation around the head of the penis. They can certainly make you come, but personally I don’t think most of them feel anything like sex.

That is probably why I prefer thrusting masturbators and Fleshlights to most other male toys, because the sensation is one that is familiar and very enjoyable, and considerably closer to sex than something simply vibrating against your bellend.

Using The Solace Pro By Hand Vs Mounted

One thing I wasn’t expecting was how difficult the Solace Pro could be to hold still at higher speeds.

You can technically use it one-handed at lower settings. However, turn the motor up and instead of the sleeve neatly moving backwards and forwards while you hold the body still, the whole thing can start moving your hand and arm with it. I was actively trying to lock my arm in position and it was still shifting me backwards and forwards.

Give the body something solid to push against and it’s a completely different experience. I sat up and braced it against the bed, which forced the sleeve mechanism to do the moving instead; that was much better.

My advice would be to use the mount. It’s impressively simple; you clamp it onto the edge of a desk or table, choose your angle and tighten everything into position. It takes very little time and, once secured, feels pretty solid. It turns the Solace Pro into a genuinely hands-free masturbator.

I’m particularly impressed that the mount comes in the box rather than being an expensive optional extra because it makes a considerable difference to the toy.

It does however make it look like someone has installed a CCTV camera specifically to monitor your penis.

The Controls

You don’t need the Lovense app to use the Solace Pro, as there are physical controls on the side which let you adjust both the stroke length and speed, and I found it easy enough to cycle through the options until I found something I liked.

One of the automatic patterns, accessed with the top button, worked particularly well for me. I wasn’t even entirely sure what it was doing. I just knew that I liked it.

The app gives you much finer control, though, and I was impressed by how responsive it is. You can do the important stuff without your phone, so the app certainly isn’t obligatory, but adjusting everything on screen is easier when you’re actually in the moment.

It also becomes much more fun when somebody else has control.

Is The Lovense Solace Pro Loud?

The first time I used it was late at night when the house was completely quiet, and the mechanical stroking seemed fairly loud but having now used it in more normal conditions I think that first impression was slightly unfair.

Mounted to a desk during the day with the washing machine running in the next room, it was barely audible over the washing machine, particularly at the lower levels of power.

I still wouldn’t use it with a flatmate sitting on the other side of a thin bedroom wall and expect complete secrecy, but this isn’t Autoblow territory either.

Music or a television at a normal volume should cover most of the mechanical noise pretty easily.

So no, it isn’t silent, or even quiet. But considering it is physically moving a sleeve backwards and forwards at considerable speed, I’d actually class it as acceptable.

What Is The Lovense Solace Pro Sleeve Like?

The included sleeve is basic. It’s soft and textured and does the job well. I wouldn’t say the sleeve itself is necessarily what makes the Solace Pro special, though. The automatic movement is.

When we put the Solace Pro sleeve next to a Fleshlight sleeve, they looked similar enough that we immediately wondered whether you could swap them. So, naturally, we tried.

Can You Use A Fleshlight Sleeve In The Solace Pro?

We tested sleeves from both our Fleshlight Flight Pilot and Fleshlight Masterstroke. Although the Fleshlight sleeves are a little shorter than the original Solace Pro sleeve and open-ended rather than closed at the far end, both fitted inside the housing and worked perfectly well.

I wouldn’t assume absolutely every Fleshlight sleeve ever made will fit identically, but both of the ones we tried worked without a problem.

The official Solace Pro replacement sleeves aren’t particularly expensive either. They are around £15, which seems pretty reasonable for something that will eventually need replacing.

Cleaning The Solace Pro

Cleaning the sleeve is pretty straightforward. It comes out of the housing and can be turned inside out, so washing the textured interior properly isn’t difficult.

Drying takes slightly longer because, unlike a Fleshlight sleeve, the supplied Solace Pro sleeve is closed at the far end. With a Fleshlight, you can wash it and then essentially windmill the sleeve around in your hand to fling most of the water out through either end.

You can still windmill the Solace sleeve, if that is how you choose to spend your evening, but because one end is sealed you inevitably end up with a little moisture sitting at the bottom.

It isn’t a serious problem. You just need to leave it out for longer and make sure it is properly dry before putting it away.

Lovense Solace Pro Vs Fleshlight

A Fleshlight is still much simpler. You pick it up, add lube and move it with your hand. It is quiet, easy to control and genuinely usable with one hand.

The Solace Pro takes slightly more setting up, particularly if you want to mount it, but what you get in return is powerful automatic stroking and hands-free use.

And now that we know our Flight Pilot and Masterstroke sleeves both fit, you don’t necessarily have to choose between a Fleshlight texture you love and automatic movement.

Until now, the Fleshlight has always been the easier and, honestly, more satisfying choice for me, however the Solace Pro is the first automatic masturbator I’ve used where I can genuinely see myself reaching for it instead.

Lovense Solace Pro Vs Autoblow AI Ultra

I’ve tried both the Autoblow AI Ultra and the Solace Pro, and although they work in a broadly similar way, they feel quite different to use.

The Autoblow is much bigger, heavier and louder, and it needs to be plugged into the mains. That extra weight does help keep the main unit still while the stroker moves, whereas the lighter Solace Pro benefits from being braced or mounted at higher speeds.

The Solace Pro is rechargeable and much easier to pick up and use. Once mounted, you get the stability of a fixed machine without having to deal with something as enormous as the Autoblow.

It also offers much better partner control through the Lovense app. The Autoblow has a web app which works in a similar way, but I found it less user-friendly, particularly for long-distance play.

If I had to choose between them, I’d keep the Solace Pro.

What About The Lovense App And Long-Distance Control?

One of the main reasons to buy a Lovense toy rather than a simpler automatic masturbator is the app, which came top in our comparison of app-controlled sex toys.

The actual control works very well. It is responsive enough that changes to the speed, depth or position of the stroke feel immediate, which is particularly important when somebody else is controlling it. There isn’t much fun in remote control if your partner makes a change and you feel it several seconds later.

You can also use Lovense toys together. We have several other Lovense toys including the Ferri panty vibe, Fizz clit sucker, Lush 4 vibrating egg, Gemini vibrating nipple clamps and Domi 2 wand, so one person can take control of the Solace Pro while the other hands over control of their toy which makes the Solace Pro much more fun for couples.

Being super critical for a moment, the app itself is quite cluttered. Lovense has built an entire community around its toys, with social features, public patterns and options for connecting with other users. If the idea of letting strangers control your toy appeals to you, you’ll probably think there is loads to explore.

Personally, I want to connect my toy, connect to my partner and get on with it.

There’s also Lovense AI Sync, which can sync the Solace Pro’s thrusting to compatible videos and streams in real time. We haven’t tested this side of it properly, so I’m not going to pretend I can tell you how convincing it is, but it’s there if interactive porn is part of the appeal for you.

Fortunately, underneath all that clutter, the bit that actually matters works extremely well, and because all the important basic controls are also available on the Solace Pro itself, you can ignore the app completely when you don’t fancy using it.

Is The Lovense Solace Pro Worth £159/$199?

At the current price of £159, I actually think the Solace Pro represents pretty good value for what you get.

That isn’t pocket change, obviously, but premium male toys have become expensive. There are masturbators around the same price which vibrate, suck or rotate but don’t provide the full mechanical stroking action you get here. The Autoblow AI Ultra is also considerably more expensive.

Put it another way and £159 is roughly what you might spend on two or three full-size Fleshlights, depending on the models you choose.

For that, the Solace Pro gives you a rechargeable automatic stroker, app and long-distance control, adjustable stroke speed, depth and position, an included hands-free mount and the ability, at least with the two we tested, to use Fleshlight sleeves you already own.

The replacement sleeves are only around £15 as well, so keeping it going shouldn’t become an expensive habit.

For a toy this mechanically capable, I think £159/$199 is actually a pretty competitive price.

Who Would I Recommend The Solace Pro To?

I think the Solace Pro is particularly good for men who prefer stroking and penetration-style sensations. If you like Fleshlights but want the movement automated, this is the first automatic masturbator I’ve tried that genuinely competes with one.

If you just want something small and quick to use one-handed in bed, a normal Fleshlight remains simpler. But if you want automatic thrusting, hands-free use and partner control, the Solace Pro offers a lot for the money.

Lovense Solace Pro Review: My Verdict

I’ve tried plenty of male sex toys now, and most of the automatic ones have been interesting novelties rather than something I particularly wanted to keep using.

The Solace Pro is the first one that I’ve put straight into my bedside drawer.

There are compromises. It isn’t the easiest toy to hold loosely in one hand at full power, the original sleeve takes longer to dry than a Fleshlight, it’s not super quiet and I could happily lose half of the social stuff from the Lovense app.

But the bits that actually matter are very good; the stroking feels good, the mount makes it properly hands-free, the app control is responsive and the ability to adjust not only the speed but the length and position of the stroke gives you, or your partner, control over the sensations.

Most importantly, I enjoy using it and I am happy to say that the Lovense Solace Pro is comfortably the best automatic masturbator I’ve tried so far.
