Every few months, social media collectively decides that a particular sex toy is the thing everybody needs to own.
A couple of years ago it was the infamous rose toy. Suddenly every other TikTok, Instagram Reel and Facebook advert seemed to feature a suspiciously innocent-looking flower promising life-changing orgasms. Since then, I’ve seen a steady stream of cute, discreet and often fruit-shaped clitoral suction toys appearing online, all promising the same thing: powerful stimulation without the intimidating appearance of a traditional vibrator.

The Lovehoney Strawberry and ROMP Lemon Crush clit suckers are two of the latest examples.
The Lemon and Strawberry are clitoral suction toys, which work with air pulses directed at the clitoris. You can read about how they work in this blog post.
At first glance, they’re adorable. They’re small enough to fit in the palm of your hand, look more like novelty stationery or something makeup-adjacent than sex toys, and would probably attract less attention on a nightstand than many moisturisers.

But are they actually any good?
As someone who has tested an alarming number of clitoral suction toys from the budget end of the market right through to the most expensive premium toys like the Womanizer Next and LELO SONA 3, I was curious to find out whether these fruity little clit suckers could deliver more than just a cute Instagram photo.

What’s In The Box?
Neither toy is trying to compete on luxury. Inside the box you’ll find:
- The toy
- A magnetic USB charging cable
- Instructions (and stickers, in the Lemon’s case).
That’s it.

There’s no fancy storage pouch, satin bag, travel case or premium packaging experience. Compared to higher-end brands, the presentation is fairly basic. Fine; I rarely use them anyway.
That said, both toys do use magnetic charging, which immediately puts them ahead of some cheaper budget suction toys I’ve tested in the past, like the battery operated Romp Switch (also available in the US here). They’re also fully waterproof and rechargeable which makes them practical companions for weekends away.
ROMP Lemon Crush vs Lovehoney Strawberry
Having tested both fruity toys side-by-side, they’re far more similar than different.

The Strawberry and Lemon clit suckers both use air pulse technology to provide contactless clitoral stimulation. Both offer 10 intensity levels controlled via a single button. Both are fully waterproof. Both are rechargeable – although the ROMP Lemon Crush charger is slightly more robust. Both have an RRP of £44.99/$54.99, which makes them very affordable particularly if you wait for a sale, or when you apply our 20% off code SEXTOYREVIEW20 – or both.
The main difference comes down to the sensation. The ROMP Lemon feels slightly more aggressive and direct. The stimulation is a little more noticeable and the toy itself is fractionally louder, particularly in a quiet bedroom at night.
The Strawberry feels slightly gentler and a touch softer in comparison.
The difference isn’t dramatic enough that I’d recommend one over the other based purely on performance. For most people, choosing between them will come down to which shape appeals more.

Personally, I think I’d go for the ROMP Lemon slightly more often, but there really isn’t much in it.
Performance Of The Lemon And Strawberry Clit Suckers

Both toys worked, which is perhaps an obvious thing to say in a sex toy review, but it’s worth mentioning because it’s easy to assume that cheaper suction toys are automatically inferior.
So the headline news is that I had no trouble reaching orgasm with either the Lemon or the Strawberry toy; much like the Rose Toy before them, they’re effective little sex toys that do exactly what they’re supposed to do.
They aren’t perfect. Due to the spherical shape, you may well lose the button mid-use. If you forget what level of intensity you’re on, you may overshoot it and have to cycle back through them until you reach the right one. However, neither of these are deal breakers, particularly for the cost.

What surprised me was how small the gap felt between these and toys costing three or four times as much. Don’t get me wrong, the Womanizer Next and LELO SONA 3 are superior products. They’re quieter, more refined and offer more control. But if your only question is whether the ROMP Lemon and Strawberry can produce satisfying orgasms, the answer is yes.

Lemon And Strawberry Vs Premium Clit Suckers

Where the fruity duo fall behind premium competitors isn’t in the end result, but in how they get there.
Compared to the Womanizer Next and LELO SONA 3 – the top picks in our round up of best clitoral suction toys – the stimulation feels slightly harsher, less like it’s coaxing that orgasm out of you gently. The intensity changes are more noticeable as you move through the settings and the overall sensation feels less smooth.
Both premium toys have a wider range of intensity levels which you can increase and decrease rather than cycling through using the one button. I assume due to the more expensive motors used, the stimulation feels more controlled and somehow more refined. If you place both against your skin you will certainly notice the difference; the more expensive toys are powerful but slightly less aggressive with it.
Ppremium toys are unquestionably better. They’re quieter, more ergonomic and packed with additional features, but they’re also three or even four times the price. Are they three or four times better? Probably not, no. That’s not how things work.

If your priority is simply having an orgasm rather than owning the most advanced suction technology available, the ROMP Lemon and Strawberry make a surprisingly strong argument for themselves.
If somebody handed me £190, I’d buy the Womanizer Next. If somebody handed me £50, I’d buy the ROMP Lemon and still have enough money left over for takeaway.
Are These Fruity Sex Toys Good For Partnered Sex?
No, not really. The fruit-shaped design is comfortable to hold during solo use, and even to grip between your thighs, but both toys are taller than premium competitors which lie flatter against the body.
If clitoral stimulation during penetrative sex is a priority, I’d opt for the We-Vibe Melt 2 which is designed to fit comfortably between bodies and be ergonomic to hold.
The Lemon and the Strawberry clit suckers are much better suited to solo play.

Who Would I Buy These For?
There is certainly a market for these toys. I would recommend them to:
First-Time Clit Sucker Buyers
If you’ve never tried a suction toy before, these toys are excellent entry points. They’re easy to use, unintimidating and affordable enough that buying one doesn’t feel like a major investment.
Someone Living With Parents Or Housemates
Neither toy is completely silent, but both are discreet and more importantly, they don’t really look like sex toys.
If privacy is important, a lemon or strawberry sitting on a shelf attracts a lot less attention than most vibrators.
Gifts
I can easily imagine buying one of these as a gift for a partner, girlfriend or friend. They’re fun, playful and approachable in a way that many sex toys simply aren’t. No one is getting offended by these.

Travel
Both toys are small, discreet, waterproof and rechargeable so would make great travel sex toys. They take up very little space and are easy to throw into an overnight bag without a second thought.
Our Clit Sucker Recommendations
If you want… | Buy… |
|---|---|
Cheap, decent clit sucker | ROMP Lemon |
Cutest gift | Strawberry |
Best for partnered sex | We-Vibe Melt 2 |
Softest | Biird Namii |
Quietest | LELO SONA 3 |
Best overall | Womanizer Next |
I Don’t Like Lemons Or Strawberries… Are Other Fruits Available?
If you’re not a Lemon or Strawberry fan, the Romp Peach (also available in the US here) is probably based on the very same motor as the ROMP Lemon, but in a more circular shape. It looks almost identical to the Womanizer Peach and probably is, as the two companies are owned by the same group.
There’s also the Hello Nancy Avocado of course, although for the price it wouldn’t be my pick.
Final Verdict On The Strawberry And Lemon Sex Toys

The ROMP Lemon and Lovehoney Strawberry won’t replace my Womanizer Next. They’re not as refined, not as ergonomic and not as sophisticated, but they’re also not trying to be. They have one job: to deliver orgasms. And they do it.
At £44.99, or under £36 with our discount code SEXTOYREVIEW20, these are genuinely good-value clitoral suction toys that deliver satisfying orgasms without the premium price tag.
If you’re an experienced suction toy enthusiast chasing the very best technology available, you’ll probably still gravitate towards Womanizer or LELO. If you want one to use during sex to chase that O, then it would make sense to go for the We-Vibe Melt. The Biird Namii is still squishier and has a vibrate function, and of course it also functions as a nightlight!
But if you’re looking for a cute, affordable and surprisingly effective clit sucker that won’t break the bank, both of these fruity little toys come with the usual Lovehoney guarantees and customer support, and are easy recommendations over random Chinese brands from Amazon.
Just choose whichever fruit makes you happiest!
